The Concept
A table is the quintessential piece of furniture. Throughout time we have organized our lives and cultures around the table. We are born on a table, we are married in front of a table, we plan wars round a table and when we are dead, we are placed on a table.
These tables gather scars through their lives, a burnt down candle that leaves a burn mark on the tables surface, a corner damaged during a move, a childs drawing that spills over onto the table top. In this way we can say that the table gathers memories from its own life and these memories are recorded in the tables surface. We can talk about a table’s embedded memory.
The memory tables seeks to project these memories into the future. It gathers memories. As you are reading this at this present moment you are becoming a future memory of the table.
The QR code in the center of the table gives access to the tables memory. The whole life of this table, from the design process before it was made, the trees it was made from and the carpenter who made it, and the first times it was used, all are recorded with videos.

The memory table is a 100 year project. All the important events in the tables life will be recorded and kept for future generations.
In this way its owner will always have a relationship to the tables past. Unlike anonymous objects of mass production the memory table will gain a value above its value in exchange (monetary value) and more than just its function as a table. It will have a relational value to its user and for this reason it will never be thrown away. The more memory it gains the more valuable it becomes. It will hold the past, record the present and be part of the future..
